We are looking for an associate lecturer to teach five introductory lectures and seminars on Judaism as part of a first year 15 credit undergraduate module, Introduction to Judaism and Islam, at the University of Kent. The commitment would be a one hour lecture and seminar on Wednesdays (11am – 12pm, and 12-1pm), and two one hour seminars on Friday afternoons (1-2pm, and 4-5pm), and an office hour. There are five teaching weeks in total, from 17 January – 21 February (the week commencing 12 Feb is a reading week). The campus is easy to get to from London: the high-speed train from St Pancras to Canterbury takes under an hour.
The course offers a broad introduction to key themes in Jewish culture and history over the five teaching weeks. Course materials (lecture slides, seminar activities) are all already available, though you would have discretion to alter these as you choose. Assessment for the module is by a 2000 word essay, which students will submit in mid-February.
This role would suit someone coming to the end of their thesis-writing, or who has recently received their PhD, who is looking to develop their teaching skills.
Applicants should email me their CV by 4 pm on Monday 18 December – A.H.B.Strhan@kent.ac.uk
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
PhD supervisors – please do pass this email on to anyone who might be interested in this opportunity.
